I wanted to take on new challenges. Otherwise, I would not have made a career move.
I was involved in many biomass projects in Japan at the geothermal power generation department of a major manufacturer. I could have promoted renewable energy by staying in that familiar environment.
However, in the world of geothermal power generation, it is hard to adopt new equipment or new technology from a manufacturer without an established track record of stable operation. I wanted to create optimal power plants using advanced technology. However, it was impossible to put that desire into action in that conservative industry. It is true that I was not completely satisfied with the climate in that industry.
I made the career move to RENOVA because it is not a manufacturer, but a project operator. The adoption of new equipment or technology involves a variety of risks, but a project operator can accept these risks and take on new challenges. I thought that this company would allow me to do what I wanted to do. This is why I decided to join RENOVA.

Whatever it is, trying is the first thing you should do. This idea symbolizes the corporate climate of RENOVA. Here I can really do what I had desired to do before joining this company: take on new challenges. At present, I coordinate the engineering aspects of all six of the biomass power plant projects. I am working to adopt multiple steam turbines, boilers, and other equipment from overseas manufacturers, which do not have established track records in Japan but do have high performance.
In my previous job, I was able to be involved only in a specific part of each project, mostly in the technical aspects. At RENOVA, however, a select few members are involved in each project. We are able to think by ourselves and make judgments on our own in different settings while advancing the project. I am an engineer who takes a hands-on approach, desiring to be involved in diverse operations, and not just working at a desk. Therefore, RENOVA is the optimal workplace for me.

Of course, I am assuming an even heavier responsibility than before because my perspective has changed from that of a manufacturer to that of a project operator. I also have the duty to think in advance how to handle risk. However, once I collect accurate information and determine the right countermeasures, without sticking to convention, the only thing left to do is to decide whether to take on the challenge or not. The pleasure of advancing a project by thinking by ourselves and making judgments on our own is greater than anything else.
Because the business is growing rapidly, we often have to make judgments quickly in different settings. I was somewhat bewildered by this in my early days at RENOVA. The situation remains unchanged, keeping us as busy as before. However, I enjoy it. RENOVA is probably good for people like me, who like to be busy.

Because RENOVA is a project operator, we sometimes need to consider overall trends in the industry, government policies, public opinion, and other factors when making a judgment. I would like to continue working with the spirit of total optimization, in which we consider local communities, finance, and other elements, and of course technological aspects.
All five biomass power plants are slated to start operating within one to three years. We would like to be proactive in adopting the latest equipment and technologies to make them ideal biomass power plants. I believe that these actions will help RENOVA to become a leading company in the renewable energy industry.
