Sendai Gamo Biomass

Approximately 100 students from Sendai South High School in Miyagi Prefecture visited the Sendai Gamo Biomass.

Recently, approximately 100 students from Sendai South High School in Miyagi Prefecture visited our power plant for a tour.

During the tour, we explained the features of our plant, which uses wood pellets and palm kernel shells (PKS) as fuel and supplies electricity equivalent to about one-third of the demand of households in Sendai City. The students also gained a deeper understanding of the carbon-neutral system designed with the global environment in mind.

Additionally, at the adjacent disaster heritage facility, the “Gamo Nakano Kyoshukan,” the students learned about the history of the Teizan Canal and the region’s development. It was deeply moving to see them intently examining valuable materials depicting life before the earthquake and the former Nakano Elementary School.

We hope this tour, which allowed them to experience both renewable energy and the local history embedded in this land, will serve as a fruitful learning opportunity for these young people who will shape the future of the “City of Trees.”
