RENOVA is my third company. Before I joined RENOVA, I was involved in wind power and solar PV projects, among others, so I had experience in renewable energy. Specifically, I was involved in electrical planning and design, as well as project management, including on-site construction. I feel I was given the opportunity to experience a fairly wide range of jobs.
However, I wanted to use my abilities to push the frontier of this industry forward instead of concentrating only on specific energy sources. So I was excited to learn about RENOVA’s business from its website. The company seeks to expand renewable energy with different energy sources. More than anything, the scale of each project is tremendously large. I experienced the launch of large systems at my first company, so I believed those skills would be useful at RENOVA as well. This is why I took the decision to make a career move.

It’s in my nature to take on new challenges. I like to tackle problems that are so difficult that you don’t know how to start working on them. I find a clue, and from there I move closer to the solution, little by little. I like that process.
Let me give you an example. RENOVA is involved in the Project for Offshore Wind Power Generation. But offshore wind power generation is unprecedented in Japan. So, there is no right answer. All the wind turbines we handle in the project are large, which is also unprecedented in Japan. Accordingly, all of the steps, from procurement to installation, are unprecedented and difficult, which is why I enjoy them. Each time an issue arises, team members meet and discuss how to solve it optimally. It is this process that leads us to feel that we are pushing the frontier forward on our own.

Opportunities to exchange opinions with team members increased greatly after I joined RENOVA. In this kind of process, I am often made aware that I was making remarks with a bias based on my own previously successful experiences. Work is hard, but I feel the joy of learning new things, being inspired in various ways by team members from different backgrounds.
Saying this, you may have the impression that we proceed with projects as if we were groping blindly in the dark. However, this is not true. We develop strong hypotheses using our expertise and intuition based on our experience. And we take one step at a time, counting on our hypothesis. This is how we work. If a hypothesis or testing process is insufficient, the engineer’s intuition kicks in, making me feel that something is wrong. It is curious, but when I tell that feeling honestly to other members, they have the same feeling. When that happens, we immediately correct the hypothesis or the testing process and begin to move forward again. Team members explore the optimal answer by bringing along a high level of expertise and exchanging ideas. I greatly enjoy this process.

I think that RENOVA is a good company for engineers who are eager to take on new challenges and continue to pursue new things. I believe that RENOVA is the best environment for people who have a strong will to make their dreams come true, instead of just letting them be ideas. My dream is to complete the offshore wind power plant and show it to my family, on-site. I will continue to take on new challenges, aiming to make this dream come true.
